Rickie Fowler and Marc Leishman hit Cavill Avenue on the Gold Coast last night to hit a few glow in the dark golf balls onto the beach.

Marc Leishman and Rickie fowler in his Puma Golf Gear mingled with fans under the iconic Surfers Paradise sign before turning heads in spectacular fashion when they light up the Gold Coast being challenged to hit glow-in-the-dark golf balls at a ring of fireworks on the beach. Sure, why not!? Leishman and Fowler both looked particularly relaxed, Leishman especially so in the official footwear for the event.

American Rickie Fowler and Australian Marc Leishman took part in this Event to launch tomorrow’s first round of the Australian PGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola, fans got up close and personal with tournament drawcards Fowler and Leishman as they participated in an impressive purpose-built challenge, created specifically for them by Light it up golf, Surfers Paradise Alliance and the PGA.

The challenge required the players to tee off from a nearly 2m high tee under the world famous Surfers Paradise sign, aiming for a ring of fireworks positioned down on the beach.

An iconic tourism favourite, Surfers Paradise boasts a world-class international reputation as one of Australia's favourite holiday destinations, and Fowler was more than happy to take part.

“Outside of the US, Australia is my favourite place to visit,” said Fowler who during the challenge spent time signing autographs and taking photos with the crowd.

"It's great to get out and see Surfers Paradise and the fans and do something a little bit different."

Leishman likewise got into the Surfers Paradise vibe choosing appropriate footwear for the beach-front challenge.

"Being on the Gold Coast and coming down here to hit some balls on the beach I thought I won't throw my golf shoes on I'll go with the thongs... it’s the official footwear of the Gold Coast and Australia, really," he said.

Surfers Paradise experiences 30,000 visitations on average per day.

The first round of the Australian PGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola gets underway from 6.00am Thursday at RACV Royal Pines Resort on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

The Australian PGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola will again be co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia and OneAsia.
